Delete your account
Last updated 24 September 2026
You can close your Passcode account from inside the app, or ask us to do it. You do not need to be signed in to ask.
In the app, in a minute
Open Settings, scroll to the bottom and choose Close your account. It tells you what is deleted and what has to be kept, asks you to type DELETE to confirm, and then closes the account straight away — there is no thirty-day wait and nothing to email.
Two things stop it, and each is something you can put right first: money still in your balance, which you should send out or spend, and being the only administrator of a community, which would leave that place with nobody able to run it. The app names whichever applies.
If you cannot sign in
If you have lost the phone number on the account, you cannot receive a code and so cannot reach that button. Email privacy@passcode.ng from any address, with:
- the phone number on the account, and
- the word DELETE in the subject line.
We check the request is really yours before deleting anything — with a code to that number where you still have it, and by asking you about the account where you do not. Otherwise anybody who knew your number could close your account. Once we are satisfied we delete within 30 days and write to tell you it is done.
What is deleted
- Your name, email address and profile photograph.
- Your membership of every community, and your address within each.
- Visitor passes you have issued, and the details of the visitors on them.
- Your cards and wristbands, which stop working at every gate.
- Messages you have sent through the app, and any files attached to them.
- Identity documents you uploaded, and your verification status.
- Your saved bank details and your transaction PIN.
What is kept, and why
Some records cannot be deleted on request. We would rather tell you now than have you find out later:
- Financial records — payments, dues charged, transfers — are kept for at least seven years, because Nigerian law requires it of anyone handling money.
- Gate and attendance events belong to the community whose barrier recorded them, not only to you. They are kept as that community’s own record of who came through, and are detached from your profile.
- Incident reports and emergency alerts you raised are kept by the community, with your name removed.
In each case the record stops being linked to you as a person and remains only as the community’s or the regulator’s record of an event.
If you have money in your balance
Withdraw it before you ask, or tell us in the same email where to send it. We will not delete an account holding a balance without settling it first.
Leaving one community without deleting your account
If you only want to leave a place — you have moved out, or changed job — you do not need to delete anything. Use Moving in or out in the app to give notice, and that community’s administrators will close your membership there. Everything else stays as it is.
